Project overview
Assist PFP was appointed to carry out a full fire-stopping and compartmentation upgrade across through Novus Property Solutions for the NHS Penn Hospital in Wolverhampton. The project required extensive remedial works to bring the property into line with the latest fire safety standards, all completed while the building remained fully operational.
The challenge
A recent fire risk assessment had identified multiple areas of non-compliance, Incorrect firestopping needed rectifying, above the ceiling grid working around an operational hospital over three wards, a basement, and within riser cupboards. Removal of old existing substandard product and remedial install of new measures, the project was tight on space as access was limited. The building’s patients needed to remain in place during the works, so the project required careful planning to minimise disruption while maintaining a safe environment.
Our solution
Assist PFP carried out a detailed fire-stopping survey to map all compartment lines and identify defects. Our technicians then installed new Penetration seals around copper pipes, cables, cable trays and UPVC soil stacks, rockwool fire batt and collars and high expansion mastic was used, and new fire rated loft hatch installed ensuring each zone met required compartmentation standards. We worked closely with the building management team to phase the works being conscious of avoiding mealtimes to minimise disruption to patients and staff.
